So for the past few days when i let matador run around my room i leave the door to the room open, out of curiosity to see if he will further explore the apartment. At first it seemed as if he was completely unaware of the door at all, but slowly he started sniffing around, but still cautious to never leave the room. Yesterday though, he finally went through the door! Granted it went about a foot and then scampered back, but i would say that is some excellent progress.
